HPC reference network event: eX3, today and tomorrow

Join our network event on Wednesday 21/10, 12:00-13:00, to know more about the current available resources, experiences so far and how to get access to the Experimental Infrastructure for Exploration of Exascale Computing (eX3). The event is virtual and open for all interested, please help spread the information.

Research Director at Simula Research Laboratory and Project Leader for eX3

Together with partners, Simula Research Laboratory has established the Experimental Infrastructure for Exploration of Exascale Computing (eX3) to become the previously missing national resource that can prepare researchers for exascale computing in Norway. The eX3 infrastructure is currently funded until 2022 through the Research Council of Norway’s (RCN’s) program for national research infrastructures.

The project consortium

In addition to the host institution Simula, the project consortium also counts the national HPC management body Sigma2, HPC research groups from the University of Tromsø, NTNU, the University of Bergen, and OsloMet, as well as the HPC technology providers Graphcore, Dolphin Interconnect Solutions, and Numascale.

An ecosystem of technology components

The eX3 infrastructure is not an exascale computer by itself, but it is a carefully curated ecosystem of technology components that will be crucial for embracing exascale computing. It will allow HPC researchers throughout Norway and their collaborators to experiment hands-on with emerging HPC technologies – hardware, as well as software.

eX3-seminar coming up 21st of October

The meeting has a two-fold agenda: First, we will give an updated overview of the resources currently available in eX3, highlight some experiences, and provide information about how to get access. In the second part, we briefly outline our plans for phase II of eX3, in terms of the project proposal that we are currently preparing for the RCN.

We welcome your input and ideas for technology directions to prioritize in that phase, which will be scheduled for the period 2022 – 2026.
