Increased Covid-19 reservations on Saga and Fram
Author: Vigdis Guldseth
Earlier this year, 1400 cores on Saga and 1536 cores on Fram respectively, were reserved by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Folkehelseinstituttet) for Covid-19 related research.
FHI has recently asked Sigma2 to double their Covid-19 reservations on both Saga (from 1400 to 2800 cores) and Fram (from 1536 to 3072 cores), effectuated as soon as possible, and minimum until end of this year, preferably until April 2021. Sigma2 has therfore expanded the Saga and Fram reservations.
Consequences for users?
Of course, this means that fewer nodes will be available for conventional jobs and may result in longer queue times for other users. However, this queue might be somewhat alleviated by the imminent production start of Betzy, and the reduced node limitation for "normal jobs" on Fram. Some large users on Fram will move to Betzy, and the reduced node limitation on Fram will enable some Saga users to migrate to Fram.
