We have now completed the conversion process for the backup solution for all NIRD Data Peak projects with enabled backups. This streamlines the backup process by enabling swift incremental backups and implementing selective exclusion rules per project.

Extended User Support provides users with expert assistance on their projects. This support is designed to address complex challenges requiring more in-depth attention than standard support can offer. A new NRIS Team, the High-Level Support Team (HLST), will actively pursue projects that will benefit greatly from EUS.

The pilot project selection for Norway's new supercomputer, Olivia, has begun. These projects will test the system's limits and ensure optimal performance before full production starts this autumn. While many projects will be directly invited, you can still express your interest in participating in Olivia's pilot phase.

The Norwegian Research Council recommends that Sigma2 should be the sole provider of supercomputing (HPC) infrastructure for research and public sectors in Norway. This recommendation is part of a report requested by the government to assess future computational needs.

Now you can apply for resources on the national e-infrastructure services for our next allocation period. The deadline for applying is Monday 24 February. Applications are evaluated by our Resource Allocation Committee, according to the Guidelines for Resource Allocation on the national e-infrastructure.

We are entering into an exciting partnership with LUMI-AI, the successor of LUMI and the new pan-European supercomputer and AI Factory. Through Sigma2, Norway will invest 215 million NOK in the LUMI-AI hardware. An additional 30 million NOK will be funded by the Norwegian Research Council to establish the Norwegian national part of the AI Factory.

Olivia, our latest high-performance computing system, is being assembled at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. This location is renowned for its cutting-edge research and development centre focused on high-performance computing (HPC). Once the fabrication of Olivia is complete, it will be shipped to Norway.

We are soon set to launch our much-anticipated new NIRD Research Data Archive. This new archive solution is designed to address the evolving needs of researchers requiring a robust data archiving solution or easy access to archived data

We are excited to announce the expansion of our NIRD Data Lake, adding 13 petabytes (PB) of net storage. This marks a significant milestone in our journey towards providing superior data storage solutions to Norwegian researchers.

Each year, the HPC community celebrates exceptional contributions to the field through awards highlighting innovative uses of HPC and artificial intelligence (AI) to address global challenges.

The Preparations for Operation Working Group (POWG) is making significant strides to ensure that the Olivia supercomputer is ready for seamless research use by the autumn of next year. They now have got early access to NVIDIA GH200 nodes.

The Government has tasked the Research Council with studying the organisation of a potential national infrastructure for computing power for research, administration, and artificial intelligence.

The grant will benefit many disciplines, such as health, ocean, and climate research, and especially artificial intelligence (AI) research. The funding will co-finance a new national supercomputer and expansions in AI.

Major upgrade of NIRD Data Lake: We have upgraded the object storage on NIRD (the National e-Infrastructure for Research Data) to leverage the latest technology, delivering improved performance, strengthened security and streamlined administration.

Sigma2 is pleased to announce that Norway's next supercomputer now has its official name: Olivia. Olivia will play a significant role in developing artificial intelligence (AI), especially in developing and improving Norwegian language models.

The Research Council of Norway recommends investing 2.6 billion NOK in high-performance computing (HPC) for research and artificial intelligence over the next five years in a recently published report. The report evaluates the need for HPC and AI resources.

Despite facing some challenges, we are making good progress towards providing researchers in Norway with an improved archive for research data based on user feedback.

The contract, which has a value of 225 million NOK is now signed. Norway is getting a new supercomputer that can become a central engine in realising the potential of the government's investments in AI research.

We are happy to announce significant updates to our storage services. The updates bring improvements in several areas, from capacity and capabilities to performance and costs. New and existing projects can better tailor their storage services to specific needs.
