Norwegian Government Allocates NOK 8 Million to Quantum Computing Initiative

20.06.2025

The Norwegian government has announced a funding package of NOK 43 million to advance quantum technology research, with a key focus on strengthening research infrastructure.

Out of this, NOK 8 million has been awarded to Sigma2, Simula, SINTEF, and OsloMet for developing national quantum computing infrastructure.

This funding aims to expand Norway's NRIS and eX3 supercomputing systems to support quantum research. The project will provide access to LUMI-Q, Europe’s quantum infrastructure, and enable the development of hybrid quantum-classical computing environments. Additionally, it will establish a training platform to equip researchers with skills in quantum algorithm design, quantum-enhanced simulation, and hybrid workflows.
