The 2025 annual report highlights a year of high activity and significant progress for Sigma2 and Norway’s research infrastructure. With several hundred projects, a growing user base, and new national initiatives, the foundation for research and innovation in Norway is being strengthened.
A key highlight was the launch of Olivia, Norway’s most powerful supercomputer to date.
Sigma2’s inclusion in the national budget for the first time also signifies strengthened national recognition and provides direction for further development.

2025 also saw the start of the national AI factory, which will make advanced computing power and artificial intelligence more accessible to academia, industry, and the public sector.
Through the National HPC Competence Centre, projects were carried out in areas such as energy optimisation, aquaculture, and industrial simulations.
The national infrastructure is reaching an increasingly wide range of disciplines and benefiting more research communities.
